Profs Take Pair From Garnet

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- The Garnet softball team took on the top team in the region Thursday afternoon, falling in both sides of a non-conference doubleheader at 16th-ranked Rowan University.

The Profs, ranked atop the most recent NCAA Division III East Region rankings, won both games by identical 8-0 scores to improve to 28-6 overall while Swarthmore dropped to 12-21 on the season.

Swarthmore sophomore infielder Krista Scheirer (Norristown, Pa. / Germantown Academy) led the Garnet offense with a double and a single while Kathryn Riley ’10 (Dagsboro, Del. / Indian River) added a double with Maggie Vizcarra ’11 (Long Beach, Calif. / Long Beach Polytechnic) contributing a base hit.

The Garnet return home this weekend for a pair of Centennial doubleheaders, starting with a 1:00 p.m. pairing against rival Haverford on Saturday, April 25.  Swarthmore then will hold its annual Senior Day celebration on Sunday, April 26 with a 1:00 p.m. twinbill with McDaniel College.
