Rangers Gallop Past Swat

MADISON, N.J. --  Swarthmore scored five straight goals at Drew Wednesday night, only to see the hometown Rangers pull of the come-back victory, 7-5, in non-conference lacrosse action.

The Garnet (6-6) got two goals from attacker Stelios Wilson ’09 (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) while goalie Kevin Friedenberg (Needham, Mass. / Needham) posted 10 saves.

The Rangers (7-6) had attacker Jon Bucknam led all players with six points (five goals, one assist).

Swarthmore enjoyed a 37-22 shot advantage and scooped up two more ground balls (33-31) yet was unable to solve Rangers goalie Michael Celentano who posted five fourth-quarter saves (15 total on the night).

Swarthmore will play its biggest lacrosse game of the season on Saturday, concluding the regular season with a 1:00 p.m. contest at rival Haverford.  One spot remains for the 2009 Centennial Conference Lacrosse Championships and the Garnet are tied at 3-4 with McDaniel and Muhlenberg.  Swarthmore needs a win over the Fords (ending a four-game slide to the rival) and a Muhlenberg loss to Ursinus to clinch its first-ever Centennial playoff berth.
