Walker Named CC Defensive Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. - Swarthmore goalkeeper Lauren Walker '09 was selected as the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced Monday, Oct. 27.

Walker (Fallston, Md. / The Hotchkiss School [CT]), a senior captain, allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of action, making 10 saves in a 1-0-1 week for the Garnet.  She turned away six shots in a 1-0 win at Ursinus on Oct. 22, recording her fifth shutout of the season and preserved a 1-1 double overtime tie with Gettysburg, three days later.

Walker has put together one of the best careers by a Centennial goalkeeper.  She currently ranks third in the Conference in save percentage (.857) and fourth in goals-against average (0.67).  Walker set the Conference record for lowest goals-against average (0.27 in 2007) and tied the Centennial record for shutouts in a season (10).  She is currently in third for career goals-against average (0.74) and tied for fourth all-time in career shutouts (24) in Conference history.

Walker is the third Swarthmore woman to be honored by the Centennial in 2008; sophomores Elizabeth Mills (Sept. 9) and Megan Colombo (Sept. 23) were named Offensive Player of the Week on separate occasions.
