Garnet Pick Up Two 5-4 Wins

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Swarthmore women's tennis team (5-2, 4-1 CC) had two 5-4 wins this weekend, the first came on Friday to #30 Skidmore College (2-4) and then to Centennial Conference foe Washington College (7-2, 2-1 CC).

In doubles actions Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) and Rachel Wallwork ’10 (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) picked up a win against Rachel Loeb and Danielle Francher 8-6. Garnet Erica Lukoski ’08 (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) and Luann Cignavitch ’11 (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) defeated Jenny Grabler and Stephanie Abrams dropping an 8-5 decision. The Garnet collected the final doubles match with an 8-5 score earned by Alexis Hickman ’11 (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) and Jamie Midyette ’08 (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) over Laura Attley and Caroline Sherman.

Wallwork picked up her sixth win of the season with scores of 6-2, 6-0 over regionally ranked 19 Loeb. Park took Francher to three sets with scores of 6-4, 4-6 and 10-3 but the match did not end in her favor. In the No. three singles match Midyette downed Grabler with scores of 6-3 and 6-1 for Swarthmore’s final win of the afternoon.

On Saturday Swarthmore picked up their second 5-4 win with five singles wins. Wallwork continues to be undefeated in Centennial singles action with 6-4 and 6-2 wins over Allison Daciek. Park had two 6-2 sets to win over Rebecca Davis while Midyette picked up 7-6 and 6-4 wins. Cignavitch defeated Carrie Palmer with scores of 6-3 and 6-1 for her third Centennial win of the season.

In doubles action Park and Wallwork defeated Kate Barston and Mary Kelley in a 8-4 decision.

The Garnet will return to tennis action went they travel to Collegeville to take on the Ursinus Bears on Wednesday, April 2.
