Blue Jays Fly Past Garnet

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (14-3, 4-0 CC) rolled past the Swarthmore Garnet (7-8, 1-3 CC) with scores of 12-1 and 18-2 in Saturday’s Centennial Conference baseball double-header at the Johns Hopkins Baseball Field.

In the first game of the afternoon’s double-header, left fielder Ben Schneiderman ’11 (Easton, Pa. / Easton) went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored a run for the Garnet. Sophomore Jimmy Gill (Lewes, Del. / Cape Henlopen) picked up his fifth RBI of the season.

Freshman pitcher Andy Allen (1-1) (Manchester, Maine / St. Dominic) had five strikeouts in five innings taking the loss despite allowing only six hits.

In the second game, catcher Ben Mendelson ’08 (Sabbatus, Maine / Lewiston) went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles.

Scheiderman (0-1) took the loss for the Garnet pitching the first two innings against the Blue Jays.

The Garnet will return to Clothier Fields to host Centennial Conference foe Ursinus College on Tuesday, April 1.  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
