Garnet Are No Match For Top Ranked Diplomats

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The top ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats (7-0, 3-0 CC) women's lacrosse team remained undefeated as they beat Swarthmore (4-5, 0-2 CC) 19-3 in Centennial Conference action on Thursday at Clothier Fields.

After a 10-0 run by Franklin and Marshall in the first half Swarthmore finally got on to the board when Marissa Schaffer ’09 (Moreland Hill, Ohio / Laurel School) scored her 13th goal of the season off a fee position. The first half ended with the Diplomats leading 12-1.

The Franklin & Marshall offense continued to dominate on the field well into the second half pushing their lead to 19-1 before Swarthmore sophomore Abbe Muller (West Hartford, Conn. / Conard) scored an unassisted goal with 7:03 on the clock. Garnet attackman Amy Vachal ’11 (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Prep) completed the back-to-back goals when she ran down the field after picking up the draw control to score at 6:04 making the score 19-3.

The Swarthmore goalies split the game playing one half each, senior Susannah Blair (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton Day) picked up three saves during the first half, while Allison Grein ’10 (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park) stopped one shot and caused one turn over.

The Garnet will continue their Centennial Conference play when they host Dickinson on Saturday, March 29 for a 1:00 pm contest.
