Christmas Earns Another Regional Honor

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore men's soccer senior captain Patrick Christmas was selected to the D3kicks.com Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team, as announced on January 3.

The senior midfielder started 19 games this season and accumulated career-highs in points (eight), assists (four) and goals (two). Christmas was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All Mid-Atlantic Region team each of the past two years. He was also the first Garnet men’s soccer player to receive the All-Centennial honor for three consecutive years (first team twice -2007 and 2006).

Both of Christmas’ goals in 2007 were game-winners, including the deciding score in a 1-0 win against Westminster on Nov. 10 that vaulted the Garnet into the Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Region Championship match. Christmas was also named to the 2007 Fall All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team.

Christmas is the first Garnet male to received All-Region honors from the two-year-old web site. Swarthmore women’s soccer players Caitlin Mullarkey ’09 (second team) and Katie Kanuka ’10 (third team) were selected in 2006.

Christmas led his team to the program’s best winning percentage since 1960 with a 14-3-3 overall record as well as the team’s first ever ECAC Division III Southern Region Men's Soccer Championship. Christmas’ recruiting class was a part of 50 wins, three Centennial playoff berths and four ECAC appearances.
