Kramer Wins NE Collegiate, Garnet Split at Bryn Mawr

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore freshman Kim Kramer rolled to the women's singles championship at the 2007 Northeast Collegiate Badminton Tournament as host Swarthmore placed third as a team on Saturday afternoon.  Kramer then picked up two singles wins as the Garnet defeated Albright 3-2 and then fell to home-standing Bryn Mawr 3-2 on Monday night.

Maryland won the team championship with 73.5 points followed by Cornell (46), Swarthmore (35.5), George Washington (24.5), Drexel (22), Towson (21.5), Bryn Mawr (10.5), Albright (4.75) and Penn (4.5).

Kramer faced little resistance on her way to the singles' championship, defeating An Nguyen from Drexel, Yike Jiang from Maryland, Tiffany Nguyen of George Washington before dispatching Hui- Ling Chan from Towson in the finals.

Kramer teamed up with senior Candice Cherk to make the finals of the women's doubles at the Northeast Collegiate.  The duo defeated Erika Lippoldt and Bo Yeon Kim from Bryn Mawr 21-4, 21-4 and then dropped another Owls' pair, Sharon Grim and Markie Hill, 21-12 and 21-5 in the quarterfinals.  Kramer and Cherk outlasted Tiffany Nguyen and Lindsay Edwards 21-18, 21-18 in the semifinals before falling to top-seeded pair of Hui-Ling Chan (Towson) and Christina Bohr (Maryland) in a grueling final by a score of 21-19, 19-21, 21-11.

 Kramer, Cherk, and Patricia Kelly swept the singles' matches vs. Albright as the Garnet won 3-2.  The Garnet dropped the second match against Bryn Mawr despite Krammer and Cherk

The Garnet will play two matches this week, hosting Haverford on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Drexel for a 7:30 p.m. match on Friday, Feb. 24.
