Garnet Sweep Fords

Freshmen Erica Lukoski (above) and Jamie Midyette won their first collegiate matches, leading 25th-ranked Swarthmore to a 9-0 victory at Haverford on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet swept through the doubles action, with the No. 1 pair of Sonya Reynolds '07 and Elli Suzuki '06 winning 8-4 over Sarah Loeffler and Allyson Scherb. Sara Sargent '07 and Waverly Lutz '07 won handily at No. 2 doubles, defeating Laura Chaddock and Priya Amar 8-1. Lukoski teamed up with Oriana Galardi-Este '06 to win No. 3 doubles 8-6 over Astra Wallace and Annaliese Wiederspahn.

Swarthmore continued to play well in singles action, losing only one set in the process. Reynolds remained undefeated in the spring, defeating Chaddock 6-1, 6-0 in the No 1 singles match-up. Suzuki took care of business at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-4 over Loeffler.

Lutz won her second match of the season by beating Scherb 6-1, 7-6 (6) at No. 3 singles, while Marissa Matthews '07 earned a hard-fought 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-8 victory over Amar.

Lukoski, making her Garnet debut, easily defeated Wallace in No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2, while classmate Midyette defeated Weiderspahn 6-3, 6-3.

Swarthmore returns to action on Sunday, March 20th when they host Georgetown University beginning at 11:00 a.m.
