Open Thread: Semester Wrapup

May 1st, 2008 by Bob

All, I enjoyed our last class meeting today, but as usual, sensed there was more to talk about than time allowed. Use this thread to share further thoughts and discussion about any aspect of the class. Thanks again for your hard work this semester, and remember that your final papers will be available for pickup outside my office (LPAC 204) next Wednesday.

I think our discussion on the importance of personal interest in the course was interesting and ultimately kind of complicating in regards to the colloquium.

All of our interests have been very unique and at times even disjointed which made class discussion something different at each class. While I liked how we began the semester with the fanifestos and finished with the colloquium presentations, I wonder to what degree this could be applied further to the course. I was really happy we were able to bring common threads to even the most diverging fandoms (my own paper specifically) but I think a more consistent look at personal fan texts could be incredibly helpful for the next time this course is offered.

After all, this course has been most revealing of myself more than anything else and I think being able to engage personal preferences more frequently could benefit the course and the students.
