ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Johns Hopkins’ John Scheuch scored just his second goal of the season in the 34th minute and the Blue Jay defense held the powerful Swarthmore offense scoreless for just the second time this season, as No. 3 seed Hopkins avenged last year’s Centennial Championship game loss with a 1-0 upset victory over the No. 2 seed Garnet on Friday night from Varsity Field at Muhlenberg College. With the win, the Blue Jays advance to Saturday night’s Centennial Conference championship game against the winner of the No.1 Muhlenberg/No. 4 Dickinson semifinal, while dashing the Garnet’s hopes of a repeat conference championship.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore College men’s soccer players Brett McLarney ‘12 and David D’Annunzio ‘12 were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Team as voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced recently. McLarney is a first-team selection while D’Annunzio earned third-team status

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior defender Gage Newman – who missed the previous game because of an illness – returned to the pitch in style, scoring two second half goals to help lead the No. 6 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team (14-1-2, 6-1-2) to 4-2 victory at rival Haverford on Saturday afternoon.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – 110 minutes just wasn’t enough for two of the top teams in the Centennial Conference. In a well played and evenly contested match, the No. 6 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team (13-1-2, 5-1-2) used an outstanding defensive performance and a stellar outing from junior captain goalkeeper Zach Weimar to earn a 0-0 tie against first-place Muhlenberg (10-3-2, 6-1-1) on Senior Night from Clothier Field Stadium.

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The No. 6 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team scored on an own goal by McDaniel’s Max Rutherford in the 55th minute, as the Garnet (13-1-1, 5-1-1) earned a 1-1 tie with homestanding McDaniel in a game that was called with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation because of heavy rain and unplayable field conditions.
