Garnet Slay Knights in 3-1 Comeback Victory

BOX SCORE

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Morgan Langley's game-tying goal from the top of the box in the 57th minute sparked a three-goal second half to propel the No. 5 Swarthmore men's soccer team (7-0) to a commanding 3-1 victory over the Arcadia Knights (3-4) on Tuesday night from Clothier field.

The win marks Eric Wagner's 100th victory as Swarthmore's head coach.

Langley scored the game-tying goal and assisted the go ahead goal against Arcadia.

After a rough first half the Garnet came out firing as Langley would connect only 11 minutes into the second half; dribbling past two defenders before blasting a perfect shot into the bottom, left corner of the goal.

From that point on it was all Swat.  Only five minutes later Swarthmore would knock in the go ahead goal as junior Micah Rose would head in a cross from Langley.

Langley is ranked first in the nation in Division III in assists per game (1.17) and total assists (7).

In the 85th minute the Garnet would put the nail in the coffin with another goal headed in; this time by junior Fabian Castro off of a corner kick from sophomore Kieran Reichert.

Swat would out-shoot Arcadia 11-3 in the second half and 16-6 in the game.

The Garnet would face its first deficit of the year as the Knights would put one in the back of the net in the 12th minute off of a corner kick from Nick Morris and header from Jeff McDonald.

Despite the first half goal, senior defender Gage Newman kept his defense together as Swarthmore would hold Arcadia to only two shots on goal.

Play was heated throughout both halves as the referee would warn several players in the first half and issue four yellow cards in the second half.

Swarthmore returns to the pitch on Saturday September 25 to host Centennial Conference foe Dickinson.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
