Mules Defuse Garnet Second Half Rally

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The visiting Swarthmore women's lacrosse team fell to Muhlenberg, 13-7, on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.

The Mules improved to a 9-2, 5-2 CC record while the Garnet fell to 8-5, 1-5 CC.

Swarthmore was led by sophomore Emily Evans (Atlanta, Ga. / North Springs) who notched her ninth hat trick of the season. Classmate Amy Vachal (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Prep) pushed her scoring streak to 18 games in a row.

First half action was dominated by the Mules offense scoring 11 goals off of 16 shots and won 11 of the 14 draw controls.

Swarthmore scored two goals in the first half, the first coming from senior Anna de Regt (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) who was assisted by junior Abbe Muller (West Hartford, Conn. / Conrad) to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Mules with 19:04 on the clock. The second Garnet goal was scored by Evans at 12:37 left in the half.

The second half was a different story, Swarthmore for the second game in a row put up big numbers for a rally but fell short to the Mules offense. The first five goals of the half were scored by the Garnet, all notches were unassisted.

Mules freshman Angela Napoletano scored two goals in a span of 35 seconds to push Muhlenberg up six goals (13-7).

Swarthmore junior Allison Grein (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park) posted 15 saves on the afternoon while collecting three ground balls.

The Garnet will return to Clothier Fields this Tuesday, April 14th to host long-time rival Haverford College. The Centennial Conference Contest is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start time.
