COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- Visiting Swarthmore defeated the Ursinus women's tennis team 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in the Floy Lewis Bakes Fieldhouse.

Regionally ranked #8 Swarthmore improved to a 4-6 overall record and a 3-2 in Conference play as #10 Ursinus evened to 6-6 overall and 2-5 CC.

The Garnet collected two of the three doubles matches with No. 1 pair #5 Rachel Wallwork (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day) and Jennie Park (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford)

wten_stockbower_bhand_09Swarthmore sophomore Kathryn Stockbower (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) [pictured left] earned her first dual wins in both singles and doubles of the season. With sophomore partner Alexis Hickman (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) the two defeated Jimena Talvera and Dana McDonough 8-6. In No. 4 singles action Stockbower notched a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

At No. 1 singled #10 Wallwork extended her Centennial Conference win streak to 15 matches in a row with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jenna Hope. Garnet sophomore Luann Cignavitch (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) won in three sets with scores of 6-5, 5-7 and 7-6 (10-7) defeating Julia Kurtz.

The Garnet will travel to Baltimore, Md. this Tuesday, April 14th to take on defending Conference Champions Johns Hopkins. The contest is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
