Garnet Oust Mighty Macs

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Three Swarthmore women's lacrosse players registered hat tricks in a 17-5 non-conference win over Immaculata on Thursday evening at Clothier Field.

Swarthmore (5-0) was led by sophomore Amy Vachal (Somerset, N.J. / Rutgers Prep), who tied a season-high five goals. Sophomore midfielder Emily Evans (Atlanta, Ga. / North Springs) picked-up her fifth hat trick of the season with three goals and senior Anna deRegt (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) also tallied three on the evening.

Immaculata (0-3) senior Claire Lichty led the Mighty Macs with two goals while three additional players got a shot past the Garnet goal.

Senior defender Melissa Grigsby (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) collected a game-high six ground balls and had three caused turnovers for the Garnet. The Swarthmore defense connected for 17 successful clears for the game.

Garnet goalie Allison Grein ’10 (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park)) had four saves between the posts collecting her fifth win of the season while gathering five ground balls. Grein shutout the Mighty Mac offense in the second half.

Swarthmore will open their Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday, March 21 when they host #6 Gettysburg College. The contest is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Clothier Field.
