Cameron Homers in Big Garnet Win

ASTON, Pa. -- Swarthmore put up a 20-10 win over Neumann on Tuesday afternoon as freshman Mike Cameron hit a two run homer at Bruder Field.

Swarthmore improved to 7-5 overall while Neumann evened to 8-8-1 for the season.

The Garnet came out strong in the first at bat bringing in four runs. Sophomore outfielder Ben Scheiderman (Easton, Pa. / Easton) schneiderman '11[pictured below]who went 3-for-5 got things started with a single and followed it up with a steal to second to get into scoring position before reaching the plate on a pass ball. Fellow outfield Jimmy Gill ’10 (Lewes, Del. / Henlopen) singled to right field to bring in two runs and scored himself off a freshman catcher Matt Lamb (Pacific Palisades, Calif. / Loyola) single to third base.

Swarthmore scooped up three more runs in the next two innings two runs were scored off a double to left field from Scheiderman as the Knights scored their sixth run in the third inning to come within one run of the Garnet.

In the top of the sixth Cameron sent a three base hit to center field and was then sent home by a Gill sac fly to center for the lone run of the inning.

Sophomore pitcher Adam Koshkin (Oakland, Calif. / Head Royce School) earned his first win of the season for Garnet pitching the 1.2 relief innings allowing no runs and only one hit.

The game was shorted to only eight innings due to the impending night fall.

The Garnet will return to the Clothier Fields tomorrow for a game against DeSales. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
