Petrels Storm Equinox Classic

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Undefeated Oglethorpe University placed five players in double-figures as they downed Swarthmore men's basketball, 93-70, on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Equinox Classic at Tarble Pavilion.

Swarthmore’s (0-2) Sam Lacy led all scorers with 21 points (a career-high), but Oglethorpe (2-0) saw all five of its starters reach double-figures. Todd Ward and Alex Richey each scored 18 for the Stormy Petrels. Marc Rogalski scored 12 points for the Garnet and Ryan Carmichael knocked down three treys en route to 11 points.

The Garnet hung with Oglethorpe for most of the first half and trailed by only three after a Rogalski layup with fewer than five minutes to go. The Petrels finished the half on a 10-0 run, capping it off with three-pointers from Richey and David Allison in the final minute.

Swarthmore shot better from the field in the second half (38 percent), but only made a pair of three’s. Oglethorpe shot better than 51 percent from the field in the second and connected on all five of its free throws.

The Garnet are in the middle of a five-game home-stand with Arcadia University coming to Tarble Pavilion on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Equinox Classic All-Tournament team will be announced on Sunday.
