Garnet Men Hit Top 25

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The Garnet men's soccer team made a strong debut at the Garnet Alumni Classic this past weekend and have slid into the top-25 NSCAA/adidas National Rankings, listing 24th in the poll released on Tuesday.

Swarthmore (1-0-1) makes its first appearance in the top-25 in the past 15 years and is currently ranked third in the Middle Atlantic region behind Messiah (2-0) and Carnegie Mellon (1-0).

The Garnet pounced on Skidmore in the season opener on Aug. 29, getting two goals from senior forward Evan Nesterak on the way to a 5-0 victory. The team relied on a trio of spectacular saves from junior goalkeeper Zach Weimar to earn a hard fought 0-0 double overtime tie with Richard Stockton on Aug. 30.

Swarthmore will return to action this Saturday night, hosting St. Mary's (Md.) at 7:00 p.m. right here at Clothier Field. The Garnet have won the last two meetings with the Seahawks (1-0-1), including a 2-1 double overtime thriller in St. Mary's City, Maryland last September.
