Garnet Lax Returns To Postseason

CAPE COD, Mass. –The historic Swarthmore men’s lacrosse program is back in post-season play after a four-year hiatus, having received the top seed in the 2008 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro/South Championship set to take place on May 9-11.

The Garnet (8-7) host fourth-seed Manhattanville College (8-7) fromthe Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) in semi-final action Friday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. on Clothier Field.

The other semifinal pits #2-seed Drew University (9-7), winners of the inaugural Landmark Conference championship, against #3-seed SUNY-Maritime (11-4) from the Skyline Conference. The game will be held in Madison, N.J. at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.

The winners will play for the championship on Sunday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the game.

This is Swarthmore’s third appearance in the ECAC Championships, all under current head coach Pat Gress. The Garnet reached the ECAC Southern Championship in 2000, falling at Wesley 12-8 and made a return appearance to the championship game in 2003, dropping a 12-11 decision to Villa Julie.

The Garnet recently completed an undefeated (7-0) 2008 non-conference schedule (the first in the past 25 years) including a 12-6 win over Drew on April 23.
