#14 Blue Jays Sweep Garnet

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Ranked #14 Johns Hopkins (6-0, 3-0 CC) remained undefeated in women's tennis action as the swept Swarthmore (3-2, 3-1 CC) with a final score of 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays number one doubles team Brittany Matava and Anita Bhamidipati defeated Jennie Park ’09 (Rockford, Ill. / Guilford) and Luann Cignavitch ’11 (Charleston, S.C. / Porter-Gaud School) with scores of 8-4 and 6-2. Yasmine Elamir and Ellen Berlinghof led Jamie Midyette ’08 (Chesapeake, Va. / Western Branch) and Alexis Hickman ’11 (Vienna, Va. / George C Marshall) scoring 8-2. In the final doubles match of the day Amanda Schubert and Abby Dwyer also won 8-2 over Erica Lukoski ’08 (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) and Rebecca Commito ’10 (Reading, Mass. / Reading Memorial). 

In singles action Park fell to Matava with scores of 3-6, 6-1 and 6-2. At the number two singles spot Bhamidipati won the last two sets with scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 6-1 to beat Midyette. Dwyer picked up her second win of the day over Lukoski scoring 6-4, 6-1. Elamir finished with sets of 6-0 and 6-1 over Cignavitch (SWAT) while Schubert completed her match winning 6-1 and 6-2 over Alexis Hickman. Berlinghof finished the day’s match beating Swarthmore junior Sofia Gall (Potomac, Md. / Winston Churchill) with scores of 6-1 and 6-3.

The Garnet will return to Swarthmore to host a non-conference match against Skidmore at 3:00 pm.
