SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Over 15 schools from across the country descended upon Delaware (PA) County just outside Philadelphia for the 2008 National Collegiate Badminton Championships. The hometown Garnet saw two of their own advance into Sunday's semi-final and final action.
Swarthmore’s top doubles pair, Kim Kramer ’10 and Maithili Parikh ’11, battled back down one game in the quarterfinals to defeat Victoria Liu and Agnes Wong from UC-Irvine in Tarble Pavilion (seen above). The pair will face Hanae Fujinami and Sophia Law from UC-Berkeley. Fujinami paired with Daphne Ng (participating in the other semifinal) to win the 2007 women’s doubles title, hosted at Berkeley.
Kramer (left), ranked 15th in the latest USA Badminton rankings, rolled past Cindy Wang from MIT 21-6, 21-4 in her opening singles’ match before falling to semifinalist Shelley Chan from Princeton in a tough 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 decision. Parikh also advanced into the round of 32, defeating Sara White from Drexel 21-4, 21-5 before being defeated by Tiffany Prajudha (UC-Irvine) 21-14, 21-16.
