Devils First Half Sting Too Much to Bear

CARLISE, Pa. -- Dickinson (7-4, 5-1 CC) scored 48 points in the first half, cruising to a 78-50 Centennial win over the Garnet women's basketball (4-7, 1-4) Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils led throughout, shooting 46.5% in the first half to hold a 48-19 lead at the break.

Following a missed jumper by the Red Devils at 16:10, Swarthmore's Karen Berk ’08 (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) grabbed her 800th career rebound. She is the fourth all-time leading rebounder in the College’s record books. The Garnet forward finished nine points and seven caroms.

Garnet freshman Kathryn Stockbower (Ft. Washington, Pa. / Upper Dublin) had her tenth double-double of the season, establishing game-highs in both points (19) and rebounds (12). She leads the conference in rebounding (14 rpg) and is on the top-ten list in all of Division III.

Swarthmore Summer Miller-Walfish ’11 (San Jose, N.M. / West Las Vegas) had three blocks to push her career total to 21. The Swarthmore Garnet lead the conference in total blocked shots with 54.

Three of Dickinson’s starters scored in the double-digits; leading scorer for the Red Devils was freshman Carole Dempsey (Potmac, Md. / Churchill), who scored 15 points. Sophomore Booke Muller (Northampton, Pa. / Whitehall) scored 12 points while senior teammate Laura Houseal (Harleysille, Pa. / Souderton) had 11 points.

Swarthmore will continue their Centennial Conference schedule as they travel to McDaniel on Tuesday, Jan. 15th for a 7:00 game.
