McCormick Named Centennial Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore senior Ian McCormick was named Centennial Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball on Nov. 26, as announced by the Conference office.

McCormick, a center, scored a career-high 36 points in an 87-84 overtime loss at Arcadia on Nov. 20. He made 16 of his 21 attempts from the floor and four of seven from the free throw line, while grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season (19th of his career).

McCormick ranks in the top five in the Centennial for four different categories: second in points (22.3 per game), third in field goal percentage (63.6%) and blocks (2.00 per game), fourth in rebounds (10.0 per game).

McCormick, an economics major, also handed out two assists and blocked two shots at Arcadia, bringing him within 20 of the school record for career blocks (148, held by Rob Ruffin ‘92). McCormick continues to climb up the Swarthmore record books—his 1,088 career points rank 10th all-time while 573 career rebounds are the fifth.

This is McCormick’s second CC Player of the Week nod—he was selected on Jan. 30, 2007 after setting his previous career-high with 29 points vs. Dickinson.

Swarthmore holds a 2-1 overall record in 2007-08 and will open its 16th season in the Centennial Conference at McDaniel College Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
