Garnet Find Win at the End of the Rainbow

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Swarthmore celebrated Senior Day by beating Franklin & Marshall 3-1 at Clothier Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet scored first at 17:20 after quick transition down the field. Ashley Gunter ’09 (Crisfield, Md. / Worcester Prep) sent in a cross to Alex Gilbert-Bono '10 (Wellesley, Mass./ St. Mark's School) who notched her first goal of the season. Closing the first half, Swarthmore led 1-0.

After some back and forth play, Garnet freshman Devon Novotnak (Fogelesville, Pa./ Northwestern Lehigh) scored the first goal of her career off a rebound at 46:41. The Diplomats finally got on the board at 57:54 when sophomore Stolle Singleton (Weston, Mass./ The Rivers School) went for a shot and freshman Eileen O’Reilly (Briancliff Manor, N.Y./ Briancliff) finished for a tip-in.

Gilbert-Bono scored her second goal of the game off a fast break to make the final score 3-1, for the home team.

Starting in goal for the Garnet was Katie Ashmore ’11 (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton) who made six saves during the first half. Subbing in during the second half sophomore Gina Grubb (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Oakland Catholic) posted four saves for the Garnet. Franklin & Marshall junior goalie Jennifer Burdo (Narberth, Pa./ Harriton) recorded nine saves.

The Swarthmore field hockey team concluded the 2007 season with a record of 6-11 ovreall, 3-7 CC.
