Garnet Women Compete at ITA Regionals

ITA CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES DRAW

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Swarthmore senior Sonya Reynolds won two singles' matches over Centennial Conference opponents in straight sets at the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships held on the campus of Mary Washington University Saturday afternoon.

Reynolds, seeded No. 3, defeated Danielle Barish from Franklin & Marshall 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the Championship Singles and then eased past Lydia Bull from Washington (Md.) 6-3, 6-1.

Freshman Rachel Wallwork continued her strong play, taking down Sarah Loeffler from Haverford 6-1, 6-1 in the Championship Singles Bracket.  Swarthmore senior Sara Sargent split her singles' matches in the same bracket, falling to Rebecca Morse-Karzen from Mary Washington 6-4, 6-1 before taking down Alexandra Glickman from Haverford 8-4. Also playing in the Championship Bracket was senior Waverly Lutz, who fell to Stephanie Kurti of Mary Washington 6-2, 6-0 but came back to defeat Alice Yu from Elizabethtown 8-0 in the consolation bracket.

Reynolds and Sargent, ranked No. 3 in the Championship Doubles Bracket, won both of their matches to advance to the quarterfinals.  The seniors downed Mary Kate Kelly and Brittany Popaca from Moravian 8-1 in the first round and then rolled past Kelly Nakamura and Claire Weiss from Carnegie Mellon 8-0 in round two.

The Championship Singles Bracket will continue on Sunday morning with the doubles play resuming at noon.
