Eagles Soar By Bantams 66-38

Junior Debbie Bruen scored a game-high 18 points and freshman Ashton Mitchell added ten points as Mary Washington (Va.) downed Trinity (Ct.) 66-38 in the opening round of the Swarthmore Tip Off on Saturday afternoon in Swarthmore, Pa.

The Eagles, the 2004 Tip Off champion, advance to the championship game vs. Washington & Lee on Sunday afternoon. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m.

Mary Washington (1-0) shot 54.5 % from the field in the first half to build a comfortable 39-15 lead. The Eagles defense limited the Bantams (0-1) to just 20% shooting from the field and came up with 13 steals.

Bruen shot nine for eleven in the game and tied for team-high honors with seven rebounds. Mitchell and freshman guard Katy Larson also grabbed seven boards each.

Trinity was led by junior forward Leigh Melanson with 10 points, and junior guard Melanie Lennick, who had nine points.
