Hoyas Blank Garnet 4-0
The Garnet (3-2) battled Georgetown but in the end the Division I squad was too strong in pulling out a 4-0 decision in a match played indoor at the Mullan Tennis Center.
The Hoyas opened the match, played with Division I rules, by winning the doubles point. Marissa Matthews '07 and Erica Lukoski '08 gave the Garnet a victory at No. 3 defeating Eileen Boyle and Michelle Picocco 9-7. Liddy Bartell and Adriann Gin defeated Sonya Reynolds '07 and Elli Suzuki '06 8-5 at No. 1 and Kristen Dew and Sana Malouf edged Sara Sargent '07 and Waverly Lutz '07 in a tiebreaker 9-8 (4) to take the point.
Bartell defeated Reynolds in straight sets at No. 1 6-4, 6-3 to give the Hoyas a 2-0 lead. Dew defeated Matthews at No. 3 in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to make it 3-0 and Gin outlasted Suzuki at No. 2 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 to give the Hoyas the victory.
The other singles matches were stopped as the outcome of the match was determined.
The Garnet host Muhlenberg on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
