Garnet Fall to Ephs in Equinox Final

Matt Gustafson '05 scored a game-high 27 points but the Garnet fell to Williams 81-61 in the final of the Equinox Classic.
The two squads battled back and forth in the first half ending in a 31-31 tie at the break.

A Gustafson backdoor layup gave the Garnet a 38-37 lead with 16:02 remaining, but an Ephs 12-0 run made it 49-38. Williams extended the lead to 14 points before the Garnet used a 12-4 run to cut it to six points at 57-51, on a Dillon McGrew '07 three pointer with 8:52 remaining.

That's as close as the Garnet could get as Williams hit four three points to open its lead to 23 at 78-55 with 3:11 remaining.

Michael Graham led the Ephs with 19 points and Matt Weisbrot added 14 while Jaris Cole earned a spot on the Equinox All-Tournament Team with Tucker Kain. cole recorded 11 points and nine boards and Kain added nine of each.

Gustafson earned All-Tournament honors for the Garnet. Jeff Maxim '07 chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds and Mark Rohde '07 added seven of each.

The Garnet travel to Drew on Tuesday for an 8:00 p.m. game.

In the other Equinox game, Haverford defeated Connecticut College 73-61. Mark Gabriel scored nine points and pulled down five rebounds for the Fords to earn a spot on the All-Equinox squad, while Charles Stone was named all-tournament in leading the Camels with 13 points.
