Lanford Wilson’s BURN THIS (4/19-21) in the Frear!

Poster

Jeannette Leopold’s (’13) Honors Thesis in Directing will feature Lanford Wilson’s Burn This, a shocking and beautiful story of grief and love. As the play opens, Anna (Anita Castillo-Halvorssen ’15) and Larry (Patrick Ross ’15) have just returned from the funeral of their best friend and roommate, Robbie. Anna struggles with her grief and tries to find solace in her passionless relationship with boyfriend Burton (Daniel Cho ’15). When Robbie’s brother Pale (Alexander Rojavin ’15) bursts into Anna and Larry’s apartment in the middle of the night, everything changes. Burn This shows four people fighting to stay afloat through loss, and through death, and leaves you holding a flame of hope.

Out and About: VAINGLORIOUS features several Swat alums and faculty!

_MG_6906 Visiting Assistant Professor of Dramaturgy Rebecca Wright directs VAINGLORIOUS for the 2013 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts! Factions clash and empires rise and fall in Applied Mechanics’ Vainglorious: The Epic Feats of Notable Persons in Europe After the Revolution.

26 actors gather in a room to recreate the rise and fall of the Napoleonic Empire — in one hour. As part of the Philadelphia International Festival of Art, this dazzling spectacle from theatre company Applied Mechanics sweeps the audience up in a choose-your-own-adventure play, building cities with canvas, countries with bodies, and heros with attitude. Formidable armies shift and change around you as you wander through history, free to follow whichever character you choose. Part dance, part theatre, all epic, Vainglorious envelops the audience in a lush fever-dream that wrestles with the monster of ambition. In an era that redefined the rules of engagement in both love and war, characters draw new battle lines. Which side(s) are you on?

The cast includes alums Isa St. Clair ’11 and Nell Bang-Jensen ’11 and Adriano Shaplin (Visiting Assistant Professor of Playwriting)
