PONOMA, N.J. – Richard Stockton’s Kyle Evans scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute as the homestanding Ospreys upset the No. 1 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team 2-1 (2OT) on Wednesday evening from South Jersey.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Trying to make good on its quest for a 2010 Centennial Conference playoff spot, the Swarthmore Garnet field hockey team (6-9, 3-4) was unable to combat the prolific offensive outpouring showcased by the first-place Ursinus Bears (13-1, 8-0) as the Garnet fell, 11-0, on Wednesday evening.

COLLEGVILLE, Pa. – The Swarthmore volleyball team (16-8, 6-1 CC) is back to winning fashion after taking down Centennial Conference foe the Ursinus Bears (9-14, 2-6 CC), in straight sets on Wednesday night in Helfferich Hall. The 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) rout of the Bears was led by sophomore Kathryn Montemurro’s 14 kills and .458 hitting percentage.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Despite placing 14 shots on goal and controlling the play for much of the game, the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team (7-5-2, 5-2) found itself on the wrong end of the scoreboard, as a goal from Ursinus’ Monica Oliveto in the 42nd minute on a long free kick proved to be the difference as the Garnet was defeated by the Bears 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss snaps the Garnet’s season-high five-game winning streak.

Garnet Men Ranked No. 1 in NSCAA National Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – For the first time in program history, the Swarthmore College men’s soccer team is ranked No. 1 in Division III men’s soccer. The Garnet (11-0-2, 4-0-2) take over the top spot in the NSCAA/Hedrickscars.com National Coaches Poll following a 1-0-1 week in which the Garnet defeated Moravian 4-0 and tied Franklin & Marshall 0-0 (OT). Swarthmore jumps ahead of previous No. 1 Christopher Newport, which suffered its first defeat of the season to North Carolina Wesleyan (3-2) on Wednesday.

Knapp Leads Garnet Golf to 6th Place Finish in the Muhlenberg Fall Invitational

Allentown, Pa. – Freshman Kyle Knapp fired an 81 to tie for 11th place in a field of 56 players to lead the Garnet golf team at the Muhlenberg Fall Invitational on Monday at Lehigh Country Club. Swarthmore would shoot a total score of 346, placing them in 6th out of 11 teams. The golfing conditions were tough, complete with rain and lightning fast greens. In addition, the Swarthmore team would only span four players, instead of the usual five.

Garnet Volleyball Fall Break Trip to California: Day 4 and Day 5

CALIFORNIA – The final days of the Swarthmore volleyball team’s fall break trip to California included two heated matches against the Whittier Poets and the hosting Cal Lutheran Regals, a trip to West Hollywood for some delectable, gourmet food and of course people watching on Universal Studios’ City Walk.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Swarthmore volleyball team (15-8, 5-1 CC) had a tough Saturday at the Fall Classic with another five set heart-breaker to Whittier College and three set loss to host Cal Lutheran.

Sophomore Kat Montemurro and junior Genny Pezzola would lead the Garnet offense combining for 43 kills on the day.
