Swimmer Travis Pollen Off to Great Start at Para Nationals

SAN ANTONIO-Swarthmore swimmer Travis Pollen ’12 opened up the US Paralympic Nationals in San Antonio by qualifying for finals in three events, all with personal best times. Pollen, who is an above-knee amputee, is competing in the S9 class in the meet. In preliminaries this morning he placed 5th in the 100 meter backstroke (1:15.12), 3rd in the 200 IM (2:44.6), and is the top overall seed in his class in the 50 freestyle (28.47). He will swim in finals later today.

Rain Shifts Swarthmore Baseball Schedule

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Today’s scheduled Centennial Conference game between the Swarthmore College baseball team and Muhlenberg has been postponed until Sunday, March 28 at noon from historic Limeport Stadium.

Subsequently, the Garnet’s scheduled Sunday home game against Penn-State Brandywin from Clothier Field has been cancelled.

Garnet Win Big Over Griffins 18-11

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomores Marie Mutryn and Annelise Mowry each netted six goals to lead the Swartmore College women’s lacrosse team (5-1, 0-1 CC) to decisive 18-11 victory over the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins (3-3, 0-1 CSAC) on Thursday evening from Clothier field.

Pride Takes Two From Garnet Softball, 11-0 and 6-4 (8)

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Visiting Widener scored two runs with two outs in the top of the eighth inning thanks in part to an error in the outfield, as the Pride rallied to defeat the Swarthmore College softball team 6-4 in the second game of the doubleheader, completing a two-game sweep on Thursday afternoon from the College. The Pride took the first game 11-0 in five innings.

CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore second baseman Mike Waterhouse hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to break an 8-8 tie, leading the Swarthmore College baseball team (9-6, 1-0) to a thrilling 11-8 victory over Widener on Wednesday afternoon.

The win marks the Garnet’s sixth-consecutive victory, matching the program’s longest winning streak since 1996.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Tyler Bradshaw scored a season-high four goals while adding an assist to the lead the Swarthmore College men’s lacrosse team (1-5, 0-3), but three Franklin & Marshall goals right before the end of the first half changed the momentum of the game and proved to be the difference, as the Diplomats edged the Garnet 9-7 on Wednesday afternoon from Clothier Field Stadium.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The No. 1 doubles pair of sophomores Stephan Youngblood and Zak Kelm defeated Kalamazoo’s regionally-ranked pair of Jason Brown and Cyrus Jadun of 8-6 to open up match play, but the No. 13 Hornets swept the rest of the match en route to an 8-1 victory over the Garnet (1-5) on Tuesday evening from the Mullan Center.
