CAPE COD, Mass. – Senior Julia Luongo of the Swarthmore College women’s soccer team has been named an ECAC South Division III second team all-star, the organization announced recently.

Garnet Stun Ursinus 74-68 For First Win of the Season

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Not even a mid-game power outage could deny the Swarthmore College men’s basketball team of its first win of the season.

Freshman Will Gates scored a career-high 31 points – the most by any Garnet player in three seasons – while pulling down 17 rebounds as Swarthmore (1-5, 1-1) stunned highly-regarded Ursinus 74-68 from Tarble Pavilion on a snowy afternoon at the College.

The win is the Garnet’s first victory of the season and its first win against Ursinus since the 1997-98 season, snapping a streak of 22-consecutive defeats.

Stockbower Scores 1,000, But Garnet Fall to Late-Charging Ursinus 64-59

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Kathryn Stockbower became the seventh player in Swarthmore College women’s basketball history to reach 1,000 career points, scoring 19 points and pulling down 11 rebounds, but visiting Ursinus rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Garnet 64-59 on Saturday afternoon from Tarble Pavilion.

Givans Ties 55m Hurdles Mark to Lead Garnet Indoor Track at Season-Opener

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomore Kenyetta Givans tied her own Swarthmore College school record in the 55m hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.58 to lead the Garnet women’s indoor track team at the season opening Jack Pyrah Invitational on Saturday evening from Haverford College.

Garnet Swim to Great Start in Swat Invite

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Garnet made a splash in day one of the Swarthmore Invitational on Friday in Ware Pool. Senior Anne Miller finished second in the 500-yard freestyle touching the wall in 5:14.33. Freshmen Jake Benveniste (4:51.71) and Tyler Hanson (4:56.03) finished two and three in the 500-yard freestyle to round out the Garnet’s domination of the event.

Stockbower/Bodur Combo Strong Again, But Garnet Fall to Johns Hopkins 76-65

BALTIMORE – Swarthmore’s one-two punch of junior Kathryn Stockbower and senior Ceylan Bodur combined for 46 of the Garnet’s 65 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a balanced Johns Hopkins’ attack that saw four different players reach double figures, as the homestanding Blue Jays defeated the Garnet 76-65 in Centennial Conference women’s basketball action on Thursday night.

Stockbower finished with 21 points – leaving her just 11 points shy of becoming just the seventh player in program history to reach 1,000 career points – while pulling down 13 rebounds. Bodur scored a game-high 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
