McCormick Named Academic All-District by ESPN the Magazine

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore center Ian McCormick (Seattle, Wash. / University Prep) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II second team for men’s basketball.

The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Athletes named to the first team qualify for the national ballot, with the national team due to be announced on November 19. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.

Ian McCormick ‘08McCormick, a senior economics major, recently took a double-credit Honors seminar entitled “The Urban Underclass & Public Policy ” with Swarthmore political science professor Keith Reeves. He interned at Morgan Stanley this past summer doing equities research, earning a job offer from the company following his playing days.

McCormick has started all 21 games this season for the Garnet. He currently leads the Centennial Conference in blocks per game (3.64) while ranking second in scoring (22.1 points per game), rebounding (10.2 per game). McCormick tops the Centennial with 10 double-doubles (27 in his career) and recorded the only triple-double in the Conference at McDaniel on Nov. 26 (16 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks).

McCormick has received a host of honors this season; he was twice named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week (Nov. 28, Jan. 22), received Centennial Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 26 and was give the Sam Cozen Award by the Philadelphia-area Small Coaches Association.
