Our annual computer replacement project is underway. Saying goodbye to old technology can be a big relief\u2026but it can also be a headache.  Fortunately, ITS is here to help.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are five things to know if you\u2019re expecting a replacement this summer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>1. Crashplan puts data recovery options at your fingertips.<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s easy to wait until the day of your help desk appointment to consider your data transfer needs. Did you know that you can check on the status of your Crashplan backup at any time online? <a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/PS\/pages\/20382266#:~:text=To%20restore%20backed%2Dup%20files,well%20for%20files%20over%201GB.&amp;text=Click%20the%20restore%20icon.\">Crashplan web restore<\/a> allows you to stay on top of your backup status and download files whenever you need to.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Tech recycling has a tangible impact!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Choosing to dispose of your technology the right way ensures that harmful materials like heavy metals are kept out of landfills and water sources<sup>1<\/sup>. Whether it\u2019s 4 years old or 14, if you return a Swat device to ITS this summer, you\u2019re helping to make sure that the waste is handled responsibly. Periodically, Swarthmore offers recycling opportunities for personal devices as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Apple devices need a little extra love.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple\u2019s \u201cFind My\u201d service is a wonderful tool, helping to mitigate the stress of loss, misplacement, and even theft. But before you return your devices to the Swarthmore help desk, it\u2019s important to unenroll your Apple products to allow for a smooth transition. Please review our latest <a href=\"https:\/\/support.swarthmore.edu\/a\/solutions\/articles\/14000035931\">Freshservice documentation<\/a> to ensure that your equipment is ready for a stress-free return.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Want one-on-one help? The help desk loves a head\u2019s up<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The help desk is open for walk-ins all summer, and is always happy to help you in a pinch. However, if you\u2019d like to schedule a one-on-one consultation, an appointment is the best way to get our undivided attention. These talented tech-stars collaborate with our full-time staff to make sure that each new computer arrives ready to support you and your individual workflow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Not sure what you need?
