This summer, ITS will be upgrading our Moodle installation to Moodle 4<\/a>. Moodle 4 greatly improves the user experience by making its user interface (UI) more intuitive to use. It also introduces some new features and improvements to the accessibility of Moodle itself. Here are some of the new features you can expect to see<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u23f1\ufe0f<\/span> Timed Assignments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can now assign a time limit to an assignment. Learners are prompted about the assignment’s time limit when they begin it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learners can view their remaining time in the blocks panel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udce8 Notify Learners of Changed Content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This feature enables instructors to send a notification to their learners, via email or mobile app alerts, when they create a new activity or make any changes to an existing one. This feature can be enabled for all activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

User Interface (UI) Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These make up a bulk of the Moodle 4 updates. Here are the biggest improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Course Navigation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Course navigation<\/strong> is now displayed below the course title<\/strong>. In older versions of Moodle, it was a \u2699 cog wheel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Edit Mode<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Enabling Edit mode<\/strong> has moved to the upper right of the screen<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Course Index<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Learners and educators can now navigate their course by expanding the Course index drawer<\/strong> on the left side of the screen<\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Blocks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Blocks are now stored in the Block Drawer<\/strong> located on the right side of the screen.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
