Because it is such a large change, Swarthmore will likely wait to upgrade until the summer of 2023, but we wanted to give you a sneak peek into the new features that will be available.

Edit Mode

A new edit mode button at the top right of the screen make it quick and easy to turn editing on and off.

Course Index

The left side menu is now an index to the course, making it easier to navigate courses with lots of content. Individual sections can be toggled open or closed. For students, colored status dots indicate activity completion.

For instructors, it is possible to drag items from the main course window into the index, making it easier to reorder activities or even whole sections without having to scroll. In addition, it is now possible to expand and collapse all sections of the main course page.

Timed Assignments

In the current version of Moodle, Quizzes are the only activity that has a time limit. In Moodle 4, Assignments now have an optional time limit. This makes it possible to assign a written exam with a maximum time and collect and grade student work just like a regular assignment.

Keep in touch

For more details, visit the Moodle 4.0 New Features page.
