Perhaps more importantly, we&#8217;ve been looking at how folks ask questions, what sort of requests come into our staff most frequently and how the answers to those questions are presented to you. We&#8217;ve taken that analysis and rebuilt the entry points into our help documentation (<a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/ITSHELP\/KnowledgeBase+Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">KB<\/a>) to make it easier for you to use, simpler to find the answers you want, and with the most frequently asked questions answered right up front. And we&#8217;ve kept the search functionality that some of you have come to rely on! For some areas, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Moodle+Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Moodle help<\/a>, we have also preserved our big list of key words to help people find the answers they&#8217;re looking for, particularly if they don&#8217;t know what terms to search for. These features are definitely preserved in the new pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Data Driven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the nice features of our new call tracking system, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.swarthmore.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">FreshService<\/a>, is that it makes it easier to analyze our incoming calls. The most frequent types of questions and calls to the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.swarthmore.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Help Desk<\/a> include the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Swarthmore account questions, trouble and permissions<\/li><li>Zoom video conferencing questions<\/li><li>Moodle issues and questions<\/li><li>Registering a device on the network<\/li><li>High performance computing<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>So we&#8217;ve made sure to organize our pages to make these sorts of questions the easiest to find answers to! And we have tried to do that throughout, looking at the most commonly requested help topics for each area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an example, we have a set of commonly asked Moodle questions we get asked at the start of every semester:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Logging+into+Moodle+at+Swarthmore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Logging in to Moodle at Swarthmore<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Moodle+Dashboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Finding your course<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Making+a+course+available+to+students+or+guests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Making a course available to students<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Adding+or+removing+enrollments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Adding &amp; removing enrollments<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Uploading+multiple+files+or+folders+to+my+course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Uploading multiple files &amp; folders<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Copying+a+course+from+a+previous+semester\">Copying a Moodle course from a prior semester<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Merging+sections+of+a+course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Merging course sections in Moodle<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Adding+TriCo+students+to+a+course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Adding Trico students to your Moodle course<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Links with the answers to these questions are highlighted at the beginning of the Moodle section, right after the search field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Page Organization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new block structure also organizes our content by area. We&#8217;ve taken a close look at the ever increasing number of articles we have (over 410) and we&#8217;ve categorized them both between major areas, and within the more specific domains, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/MOODLE\/Moodle+Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Moodle<\/a>, mentioned above, for which we divided the various sort of articles we have into six major categories, which we highlight just after the &#8220;common start of semester questions.&#8221;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"419\" class=\"wp-image-7366\" style=\"width: 600px;\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Moodle.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Moodle.jpg 1341w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Moodle-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Moodle-1024x716.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Moodle-768x537.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Moodle-86x60.jpg 86w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/> This sort of organizational effort also allows us to cross-list certain articles in multiple places. For example, if you&#8217;re wondering <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/ACADTECH\/Zoom+Meeting+Integration+with+Moodle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">how to integrate Zoom &amp; Moodle<\/a>, then you&#8217;ll find the relevant content linked from several areas of the organization, since people think about these questions from different starting points on a regular basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Critical Links<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you are just getting started with technology at Swarthmore, figuring out how to more effectively work remotely, or nearing your graduation,  we&#8217;ve highlighted some critical links for questions that are most current at Swarthmore right at the top of our <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu\/display\/ITSHELP\/KnowledgeBase+Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">main KB<\/a> page, just under the search bar. These lead to <em>role-based<\/em> sub-pages that help KB visitors find what is most relevant to their needs, whether they are faculty, students, or staff. To that end, we&#8217;ve begun to combine what we might call Services and traditional Software entries into a single Software and Services page, in which you can find both. You no longer need to remember whether it&#8217;s something you access through a browser or download and install on your machine. And we&#8217;ll help you figure it out!
