Active Learning: Feelings versus Learning<\/span><\/h1>\n

Swarthmore has a community of educators using active learning techniques.\u00a0 The Academic Technology team has been collaborating with faculty to provide learning spaces and technology to support their teaching needs.\u00a0 For the last few months, we’ve been spending time learning about how to best use the new Singer Hall Flexible Classroom. A recent article investigating discrepancies between how students feel about active learning versus how much they actually learn highlighted one of the challenges of switching from lecture-style teaching.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Electronic grading<\/span><\/h1>\n

Each semester we see an increasing number of faculty interested in grading assignments electronically.\u00a0 Here are a selection of products that we’re investigating.<\/span><\/p>\n

GradeScope<\/a><\/span>: More efficient grading of paper-based assignments and tests.\u00a0 Scan in paper and grade online.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GoReact<\/a>:\u00a0<\/span>Provide feedback and grade video assignments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Google Assignments<\/a>:\u00a0<\/span>Collect and grade Google Docs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moodle has built-in grading and annotation tools<\/a> as part of the Assignment activity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Turnitin is best known for plagiarism detection, but it also has a pretty good grading interface for Moodle assignments<\/a> that can be used to give feedback via a comment bank, freeform text, and even audio recording.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
