You\u2019ll know that SiteAdvisor is running on your PC if you notice an icon like the following on your Internet Explorer (shown) and\/or Firefox browser:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/siteadv3.jpg\" title=\"SiteAdvisor in IE\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/siteadv3.jpg\" alt=\"SiteAdvisor in IE\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>SiteAdvisor visually indicates whether a web site you\u2019re visiting has been determined to be safe or otherwise.  The SiteAdvisor icon will be one of the following colors:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font color=\"#000000\">green<\/font> &#8211; the site has been judged by McAfee to be safe<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><font color=\"#000000\">yellow<\/font> &#8211; the site has user feedback indicating it may not be safe<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><font color=\"#000000\">red<\/font> &#8211; the site contains malicious software, downloads or sends spam<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><font color=\"#000000\">grey<\/font> &#8211; McAfee has not yet scanned this site or SiteAdvisor is disabled<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While visiting a web page, you can click on the SiteAdvisor icon and select \u2018View Site Details\u2019 to get specifics on why a site has been assigned a certain color rating.<\/p>\n<p>A great feature of SiteAdvisor is its ability to provide you ratings of web sites within search engine (e.g., Google, Yahoo, etc.) results BEFORE you click on the link.  An example is shown below (<em>click on the image to make it clearer<\/em>):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/siteadv1.jpg\" title=\"SiteAdvisor in Google\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/siteadv1.jpg\" alt=\"SiteAdvisor in Google\" height=\"306\" width=\"563\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This allows you to see if a site is dangerous before it\u2019s too late!  Hovering your mouse pointer over the green checkmark (as in the screenshot above), red \u2018X\u2019, etc. gives you a quick summary of why the link is that chosen color.  Additionally, you can always click on \u201c<font color=\"#3366ff\">More info\u2026<\/font>\u201d if you want further details.<\/p>\n<p>There are two important things to point out about SiteAdvisor.  First, it does not track, log, report, etc. any sites that you visit.  All it does is provide a visual guide to you.  Second, if you don\u2019t like SiteAdvisor, you can easily disable it.  However, this is not recommended since it is very unobtrusive and has no detectable performance impact.<\/p>\n<p>You can find more details on SiteAdvisor at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siteadvisor.com\/\" title=\"SiteAdvisor web site\">www.siteadvisor.com<\/a>.
