Wrapping up: From\u00a0our last post with Aixa Pomales, Director of Support Services, she lied to us about being a great swimmer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Today we introduce to you one Mark CJ Davis, Jr. (MD).<\/p>\n

Interviewer (I): What year did you start here at Swarthmore, Mark?<\/p>\n

MD: 2006.<\/p>\n

I: What is your current title, and what other positions have you held here?<\/p>\n

MD: Current: Manager of Desktop Systems.\u00a0 Previously: Software Specialist, Technical Support Specialist.<\/p>\n

I: How did you get interested in working in technology?<\/p>\n

MD: I knew it immediately after seeing the movie War Games<\/em> in 1983.<\/p>\n

I: What is the most recent piece of technology you acquired, and why?<\/p>\n

MD:\u00a0STEM\u00a0Robotics Kit and iRobot Vacuum for father\/son projects.\u00a0 Fun and more fun!<\/p>\n

I: Could you please\u00a0tell us what you do here using only haiku (5 syllables\/7 syllables\/5 syllables)?<\/p>\n

MD:
\nSupporting Campus
\nProjects\/Meetings
\nBuilding Relationships
\nPrioritizing<\/p>\n

(I’m not so good at using haiku)<\/p>\n

I: …<\/p>\n

I: If you didn’t work in technology, what do you think you’d be doing?\u00a0 It seems you should not hang your hat on a poetry career, although perhaps the Writing Center<\/a> can help you out with that.<\/p>\n

MD: I’d either be an astronomy teacher or the host of\u00a0Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I: Seems logical.\u00a0 Maybe you would be a haiku poet in Flavortown<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I: What is the one thing you wish everyone knew about your job here?<\/p>\n

MD:\u00a0We work closely with our Registrar’s Office every year to implement and support our honors program<\/a> exams.\u00a0 This planning and testing begins several months in advance. Our team works very hard to support students and faculty during this important, yet stressful time.<\/p>\n

I: Lots of folks know you sing in a band — what’s your singing range?<\/p>\n

MD: Baritone, second tenor, falsetto first tenor.<\/p>\n

I: Where’s the most interesting place you’ve ever performed?<\/p>\n

MD: On cruise ships.<\/p>\n

I: Tell\u00a0us two truths and a lie (answers to be revealed at the top of the next person-featured blog post):<\/p>\n

  1. I volunteer as a technology and career trainer for a nonprofit.<\/li>\n
  2. I was a lifeguard and captain of the diving team.<\/li>\n
  3. I’m a professional dancer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I: I was happy not to see “I’m a professional poet” in your answers — that would have been too easy.<\/p>\n

    I: Tell us something you’re proud of at work.<\/p>\n

    MD:\u00a0I\u2019m proud of the work we do as a department to support our campus community! We really have great synergy.\u00a0 I\u2019m privileged to work with so many dedicated, passionate, talented and caring individuals.<\/p>\n

    I: Tell us something you’re proud of outside of work.<\/p>\n

    MD: I’m proud of my family, my friends, and the privilege to learn from life’s experiences.<\/p>\n

    I: What’s your favorite quote?<\/p>\n
