{"id":4611,"date":"2017-11-02T12:00:27","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T16:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/?p=4611"},"modified":"2017-10-24T11:58:21","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T15:58:21","slug":"adding-delight-to-your-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/2017\/11\/02\/adding-delight-to-your-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Adding Delight to Your Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is delight?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/2017\/03\/20\/why-things-stick\/\">earlier post<\/a>, I spent some time discussing\u00a0the role of interest\u00a0and active engagement in learning.\u00a0 In this post,\u00a0I want to turn the focus on the things that inspire you, and to encourage collaboration to share the things that we see that inspire us but that we don&#8217;t always pass along to others.<\/p>\n<p>For me,\u00a0successful and delightful engagement tends to have some combination of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>kindness<\/li>\n<li>humor\/puns<\/li>\n<li>design<\/li>\n<li>re-watch\/repost value<\/li>\n<li>thoughtfulness<\/li>\n<li>shareability<\/li>\n<li>a connective theme or concept<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That is by no means an exhaustive list; it is a list that tends to speak to my tastes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But what are yours?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am currently attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/events.educause.edu\/annual-conference\">EDUCAUSE Annual Conference<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0presenting a poster session entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/events.educause.edu\/annual-conference\/2017\/agenda\/making-it-outreach-fun-or-wild-ideas-i-thought-my-boss-would-say-no-to\">Making IT Outreach Fun (or, Wild Ideas I Thought My Boss Would Say No To)<\/a>,&#8221; I thought it would be\u00a0a fun and helpful exercise to set up a place where anyone could\u00a0share their\u00a0favorite examples of outreach, both in IT and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Would you mind adding your voice?\u00a0\u00a0This is an open Google Doc, so please edit and share &#8212; it only gets better if you contribute: <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/100xDRwm59_rAocsGCvPd8FgdGR2BzJbLTZuad5MQZL4\/edit?usp=sharing\">https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/100xDRwm59_rAocsGCvPd8FgdGR2BzJbLTZuad5MQZL4\/edit?usp=sharing<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is delight?
