Students are definitely using Moodle frequently. \u00a0More than 1500\u00a0unique people have logged into Moodle in the last day and almost 2000 people have accessed Moodle in the last week. \u00a0This includes students, faculty, staff, and TriCo students taking Swarthmore classes.<\/p>\n<p>As the number of people using Moodle increases\u00a0it may make sense to take advantage of additional features that Moodle provides. \u00a0There are a number of activities\u00a0in Moodle that aren&#8217;t well known but may be handy for classes.\u00a0 Here are four\u00a0examples that could save time or allow you to do more with your course.<\/p>\n<h1>Attendance<\/h1>\n<p>Moodle has an Attendance activity that can be used to\u00a0keep track of student attendance and participation. \u00a0It is quick and easy to take class attendance or assign participation points. \u00a0A summary report makes it easy to see student attendance for the semester.<\/p>\n<p>See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu:8443\/pages\/viewpage.action?pageId=13467807\">instructions for setting up the attendance activity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>WordPress\u00a0Site<\/h1>\n<p>Many faculty have found it useful for have a WordPress site to share student work or post group projects. \u00a0It is possible to quickly create a class WordPress site from within Moodle\u00a0and the students in the class will automatically have access to post to the site.<\/p>\n<p>See our instructions for <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu:8443\/pages\/viewpage.action?pageId=20021300\">adding a WordPress site to a course<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>Piazza forums<\/h1>\n<p>Piazza is a website that offers\u00a0question and answer forums for classes. \u00a0Students can ask questions and receive answers from their classmates or professor. \u00a0It is possible to create a link to Piazza from within Moodle.<\/p>\n<p>Our help site has instructions for <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu:8443\/display\/MOODLE\/Add+a+link+to+a+Piazza+Question+and+Answer+Forum\">creating a link from Moodle to Piazza<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>Student folders<\/h1>\n<p>There are a number of methods\u00a0to share student work with a\u00a0class. \u00a0The Student Folder activity is one of the easiest ways to allow students to upload a file to a Moodle course for viewing by the entire class.<\/p>\n<p>View the <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.swarthmore.edu:8443\/pages\/viewpage.action?pageId=16580750\">step by step instructions for adding a student folder to your course<\/a> on our help site.<\/p>\n<h1>Questions?<\/h1>\n<p>As always, if you have any questions or would like to know more, please contact your Academic Technologist.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Turner (aturner2) &#8211; Humanities<\/p>\n<p>Doug Willen (dwillen1) &#8211; Social Sciences<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Ruether (aruethe2) &#8211; Natural Sciences and Engineering<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most faculty at Swarthmore use Moodle to share files and an increasing number are taking advantage of activities such as electronic submission of assignments, pre-lecture quizzes, and course evaluations.
