class=\"wp-caption-text\">The First Steps website<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the end of July, ITS and Library staff and student workers completed another set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/its\/swarthmore-projects-educational-exploration-and-development-speed-program\">Swarthmore Projects for Educational Exploration and Development (SPEED)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>David Molina Cavazos \u201920 worked with\u00a0Assistant Dean <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/profile\/liz-derickson-01\">Liz Derickson<\/a> and Associate Director of Client Services <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/profile\/erin-massey\">Erin Massey<\/a>, to create\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/firststeps.swarthmore.edu\/\">firststeps.swarthmore.edu<\/a>, a site that Swarthmore students and faculty advisors can use to explore majors. \u00a0Each page contains data collected from alumni to\u00a0provide guidance on what students do after graduation, sample career paths, and student narratives. \u00a0The Dean&#8217;s Office is using First Steps to assist with course advising this year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4309\" &#8217;18 \u00a0collaborated with Math Professor\u00a0Elizabeth Drellich to build a website\u00a0to visualize\u00a0representations of shapes from abstract algebra. \u00a0You can see the site at <a href=\"http:\/\/reflections.swarthmore.edu\/\">reflections.swarthmore.edu,<\/a>\u00a0create your\u00a0own 3D reflection model and download the model for 3D printing.<\/p>\n<p>Cassandra Stone \u201920 developed a web site to present\u00a0audio recordings, videos, photos, and textual data from the Pacific island of Vanuatu collected by Linguists\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/SocSci\/dharris2\/\">David Harrison<\/a> and Jeremy Fahringer. \u00a0The site will be added\u00a0to the <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingdictionary.swarthmore.edu\/\">Talking Dictionaries web site<\/a>\u00a0to aid exploration and understanding of Vanuatu.<\/p>\n<p>Nicki Feldbaum \u201919 developed\u00a0interactive visualizations for <a href=\"http:\/\/rachelsagnerbuurma.org\/\">English Literature Professor Rachel Buurma\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/earlynovels.github.io\/\">Early Novels Database (END) project<\/a>. \u00a0 Thhis sophisticated visualization lets users explore the connections between\u00a0early novels and their\u00a0epigraphs and will be added to the END website soon.<\/p>\n<p>ITS and the Libraries would like to express their thanks to the students for all their efforts this summer, the staff members that managed the projects and supported the work, as well as the\u00a0recipients of the SPEED grants to coming up with engaging ideas for us to work on.<\/p>\n<p>Please get in touch with any of the
