{"id":4156,"date":"2017-06-29T12:00:22","date_gmt":"2017-06-29T16:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/?p=4156"},"modified":"2017-06-27T10:38:18","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T14:38:18","slug":"pinterest-as-an-its-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/2017\/06\/29\/pinterest-as-an-its-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"Pinterest as an ITS Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Presenting\u00a0a visual way to organize web information is something Pinterest does\u00a0beautifully. \u00a0Pinterest successfully made this type of information organization mainstream by appealing to\u00a0people in a way that its predecessors such as del.icio.us and Diigo couldn&#8217;t. \u00a0The aforementioned predecessors were text-based, while Pinterest brought to life recipes, DIY home hacks, wedding planning, and travel planning. \u00a0In fact, Pinterest at points in its life has driven traffic around the web\u00a0more than anyone else besides Google.<\/p>\n<p>So why would anyone want to use this for ITS?<\/p>\n<p>A few reasons. \u00a0It&#8217;s important to be visible to people where people spend their time. \u00a0Also, since different people learn differently, taking the time to be helpful in spaces where they approach tools to solve their problems (work and personal!) matters, too. \u00a0Speaking for myself, I will tend to go back to a good resource (<a href=\"http:\/\/lynda.swarthmore.edu\">Lynda.com<\/a>, YouTube) more frequently than striking out in a new or unknown direction (we are creatures of habit). \u00a0So if I visit a helpful Pinterest board once, it&#8217;s quite possible that I would go back to it as a future resource. \u00a0Pinterest also offers our department a way to be a bit more humorous and to inject a bit more personality into our pins and boards than our portion of the Swarthmore College website does. \u00a0We can touch on subjects that are helpful, subjects that are useful, subjects that are funny, and anywhere in between.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few such subjects on our Pinterest:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/SwarthmoreITS\/swatgoogle\/\">Google Tips<\/a>: How to be more productive with the G Suite<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/SwarthmoreITS\/cybersecurity-awareness\/\">Cybersecurity<\/a>: Little things\u00a0that you can do to be more safe<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/SwarthmoreITS\/be-a-mobile-wizard\/\">Mobile Tips<\/a>: How to be better on those tiny devices\u00a0we use<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/SwarthmoreITS\/tech-humor\/\">Tech Humor<\/a>: Sometimes you just need to laugh at the things that get in your way<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We hope that if you visit you find something useful!
