Thomas&#8217; Spring 2017 linguistics seminar, <em>Language and Identity in the African Experience,\u00a0<\/em>recently completed a semester long project creating a podcast series titled\u00a0<em>AFROLATINX PODCAST\u2122<\/em>\u00a0and an informative and media-rich\u00a0companion website\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/ds.swarthmore.edu\/language-and-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Language &amp; Identity in the African Experience<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>AfroLatinx Podcast\u2122 &#8220;features the voices of Latinx people, offering a series of podcast episodes and interactive web content that analyzes the interconnected expressions of language and identity in the African Diaspora.&#8221; More information on the creation of the project is available on the AfroLatinx Podcast\u2122\u00a0about page:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ds.swarthmore.edu\/language-and-identity\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/ds.swarthmore.edu\/language-and-identity\/about\/<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>The podcast\u00a0was recorded in segments both on and off Swarthmore&#8217;s campus. Students utilized Garageband and Audacity audio editing applications to trim field recordings, record discussions,\u00a0and mix final tracks for their podcast. These files were then uploaded to <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/user-736996577\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">soundcloud<\/a> for hosting, sharing, and embedding into a website developed\u00a0with guidance\u00a0from Swarthmore College Librarians. As mentioned in the\u00a0ITS blog post,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/its\/blog\/2017\/04\/18\/podcasting-in-the-academics\/\">Podcasting in the Academics<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0Garageband is a powerful,\u00a0easy to use tool that is a perfect introduction to podcast creation and is assessable on all Mac computers.
