Last week many of our students and staff experienced a rocky start with the new operating system, quite a few reporting that their Macs won&#8217;t even boot after the upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>At this time <strong>ITS is recommending that community members NOT update to Yosemite<\/strong>. As with all new software, it is advisable to wait at least a month or two before upgrading to let the initial bugs and incompatibilities to be resolved. \u00a0 In addition, ITS asks that staff and faculty NEVER\u00a0upgrade the operating system on College-owned computers without first contacting the help desk.<\/p>\n<p>If you have already upgraded to OS X 10.10, be aware that the following issues have been identified:<\/p>\n<p><strong>McAfee VirusScan 9.1.0<\/strong> will not update definition files. ITS is working to make a newer version of VirusScan available to the community as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Java-based applications <\/strong>will not run without a patch. Core Java applications include Banner, Crashplan, DropBox, and older versions of Adobe products. Patch available here: <a title=\"Java for OS X\" href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/DL1572\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/DL1572<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bluetooth and Wi-fi connectivity issues<\/strong> ranging from sudden slowness to dropping connections have been reported. We expect Apple to patch these services in a future update. In the meantime, bring your laptop to the help desk if you experience Bluetooth or Wi-fi issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matlab R2012A through R2014A <\/strong>are not compatible with Yosemite. Mathworks has released a patch for these versions, available here: <a title=\"Matlab patch for Yosemite\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mathworks.com\/support\/bugreports\/1098655\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.mathworks.com\/support\/bugreports\/1098655<\/a> (you will need to log in with your Mathworks ID to access this page)<\/p>\n<p>If you have any additional issues or questions please contact the Help Desk.
