These projects often require specialized computational and data-related resources beyond personal laptops and desktops. Below is an overview of resources available to support your summer research:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ACADTECH\/pages\/161546272\/Firebird+Computing+Cluster\">Firebird<\/a> is Swarthmore&#8217;s high-performance computing (HPC) system, offering both a traditional command-line interface and a GUI virtual desktop. Several popular <a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ACADTECH\/pages\/165609475\/Software\">software packages<\/a> \u2014 including Stata, MATLAB, and RStudio \u2014 are available and can leverage multiple cores, extended memory, and GPUs. Firebird also supports <a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ACADTECH\/pages\/165412865\/Python+on+Firebird\">Python virtual environments<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ACADTECH\/pages\/162234377\/Open+OnDemand#Jupyter-Notebooks\">Jupyter Notebooks\/Lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For transferring, sharing, and managing research data, <a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ACADTECH\/pages\/1013645313\/Globus\">Globus<\/a> is available. <a href=\"https:\/\/swatkb.atlassian.net\/wiki\/spaces\/ACADTECH\/pages\/20910849\/Research+Data+Management\">Additional platforms<\/a> \u2014 including Google Drive, network shares (e.g., AWS S3), and Firebird itself \u2014 can support broader research data workflows such as storage, backup, and sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We strongly encourage you to reach out to Jason Simms (jsimms1@swarthmore.edu) as early as possible to discuss your summer research plans.
