feeling that September represents a new year. \u00a0 More than January, it offers new beginnings and possibilities. \u00a0 Faculty members come back from their summer activities recharged, and with new ideas and projects. \u00a0 Our students return, literally, in earnest. \u00a0 The quiet, sunny paths become challenging to navigate as people Have to Get Somewhere. \u00a0 My new year&#8217;s resolution for this fall is to enjoy these moments. \u00a0 I love helping a first-year student find a building, or hearing a student talk excitedly on their cell phone to a parent about a new class. \u00a0Or seeing a faculty member help a new colleague understand our customs and practices. \u00a0(&#8220;What&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/academics\/writing-program\/writing-associates-was.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WA<\/a>?!&#8221;) \u00a0When not too busy helping faculty and staff with their new ideas and projects, Institutional Research has a moment to catch its breath before our fall\u00a0<a title=\"\u201cFreeze\u201d time\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.swarthmore.edu\/institutional-research\/?p=160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">freeze<\/a>, and watch the excitement.\u00a0 \u00a0 My wish for the College in this new year is peace, love, and understanding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having worked in higher education for all of my adult life, I&#8217;ve never gotten over that &#8220;kid&#8221;
