But the thing is, late in the day I discovered Dwight Evans, which is pretty sad because I only live a few blocks from his district in West Oak Lane where he accomplishes miracles. Evans probably would have been the best choice but most of us didn’t even know about him. And by then it was onto strategic voting. Fattah kind of embarrassed himself in the primary and his protege Cindy Bass, failed to knock of “worst councilperson” Donna Reed Miller despite the endorsements of everybody. I expect him to face a challenge in the next primary. He really looked bad in the mayor race.

Also how there aren’t any TV shows Nutter is not ashamed to admit he watches.

And Nutter’s Mandela to Fattah’s Tiger Woods.

I was recently talking to my uncle’s fiancee, a 40- or 50-something, multiple-degree-holding African American woman, and found out that she absolutely adores Dennis the Menace. “I just love it when he makes Mr. Wilson so mad!” is a direct quote.

Honestly, I have to imagine that he really does like the Lockhorns, because I have a hard time imagining that being a politically resonant choice with, well, anybody. Maybe, like me, Nutter admires the strip’s total commitment to endless intramarital loathing, unleavened by any hint of sentimentality or human kindness. Or maybe he really hates his wife.
