Langley Breaks Career, Single-Season Points Records as No. 8/9 Garnet Defeat Haverford 2-0 on Senior Day

Senior Morgan Langley scored a pair of goals to break the program’s single season and career points records, leading the No. 8/9 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over arch-rival Haverford on Saturday evening in front a capacity crowd at Clothier Field Stadium.

No. 8/9 Garnet Men Secure Top Seed With 1-0 Win at No. 20 Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The road to the Centennial Conference Championship will go through Clothier Field Stadium.

In a battle between two of the top teams in the Conference and in the region, senior Morgan Langley scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 48th minute to give the No. 8/9 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team a 1-0 road victory over No. 20 Muhlenberg on Wednesday evening from Allentown.

With the win, the Garnet (13-1-2, 6-0-2) secure the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs and home-field advantage for the event. The Swarthmore win also hands the Mules their first loss of the 2010 season (8-16).

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – With over 800 fans, students and alumni packed in the Clothier Field Stadium bleachers for Garnet Homecoming Weekend, the No. 1 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team put on a show that no one in attendance is likely to forget.

Senior Morgan Langley scored two first-half highlight-reel goals and added an assist to his NCAA-leading total, while junior Fabian Castro scored a goal and added two assists as the Garnet (12-1-2, 5-0-2) overwhelmed McDaniel with a combination of speed and skill, defeating the Green Terror 4-0 on Saturday evening.

PONOMA, N.J. – Richard Stockton’s Kyle Evans scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute as the homestanding Ospreys upset the No. 1 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team 2-1 (2OT) on Wednesday evening from South Jersey.

Garnet Men Ranked No. 1 in NSCAA National Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – For the first time in program history, the Swarthmore College men’s soccer team is ranked No. 1 in Division III men’s soccer. The Garnet (11-0-2, 4-0-2) take over the top spot in the NSCAA/Hedrickscars.com National Coaches Poll following a 1-0-1 week in which the Garnet defeated Moravian 4-0 and tied Franklin & Marshall 0-0 (OT). Swarthmore jumps ahead of previous No. 1 Christopher Newport, which suffered its first defeat of the season to North Carolina Wesleyan (3-2) on Wednesday.

LANCASTER, Pa. – There’s a reason the Centennial Conference is widely considered the nation’s best conference for Division III men’s soccer.

Despite controlling possession throughout and owning a 15-7 advantage in shots and 7-3 edge in shots on goal , the No. 2 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team could not break down a stingy Diplomat defense, as the Garnet was forced to settle for a 0-0 draw with Franklin & Marshall (6-3-3, 2-1-3) on a windy Saturday afternoon in Lancaster.

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – One game after being held without a point for just the second time this season, it didn’t take senior forward Morgan Langley too long to get back on track.

Langley scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year just five minutes into the game while adding two assists to his NCAA-leading total as the No. 2 Swarthmore College men’s soccer team (11-0-1) dominated the Moravian Greyhounds, 4-0, on Tuesday night from Clothier Field in a non-conference battle.

Garnet Men Maintain No. 2 National Ranking

Kansas City, Kan. – Fresh off a 3-0 victory over Ursinus, the Swarthmore men’s soccer team maintained its No. 2 national ranking in the D3Soccer.com and NSCAA/HendricksCars.com polls, the organizations announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The Garnet is ranked No. 2 for the second consecutive week, trailing Christopher Newport for the top spot in both polls. Swarthmore did pick up one additional first-place vote in the D3Soccer.com national poll.
